What I learn by tutoring others. Teaching others gives one perspective. You get to see others misunderstandings and students under various levels of motivation. It was surprising to me at first how similar students in “gifted” classes are to students who are labeled learning disadvantaged. I find that students who are termed, “learning disadvantaged,” are often just as capable as their “gifted” peers. So what are the differences?Often I find that students who are called, learning disadvantaged, may have achieved this status based off a combination of one or more of the following factors: A student may have not learned an essential concept necessary for them to progress with the rest of the class. Unfortunately teachers have to address the needs of all the students in their classrooms and may not have time to spend one on one with each student that is struggling.One of the worst case scenarios is a student who is bright enough to come up with the correct answer enough times to escape teacher attention, yet does not actually learn the material leading to a problem that cannot be solved without intervention. This often happens when students engage in some form of what is known as “academic bulimia,” merely memorizing what is essential to pass the lesson, then forgetting or worse mixing up concepts learned with other concepts.This incomplete learning merged with later confusion can easily create a problem requiring intervention.Unfortunately this intervention is sometimes an inappropriate labeling of as, “learning disadvantaged.”My solution to this is to get the student caught up, and drill the student in a way such as to make sure that the student has understood the concepts. Students that have become good at guessing answers must be subjected to a battery of related problems to make sure that they have internalized the concepts, vs. just going through the motions. A student may not understand a teacher’s teaching style, or submission requirements. This incompatibility can lead to frustration on the part of both the student and teacher. I try to make sure that the students in these cases can work efficiently on their own and understand how to present their knowledge in a way that the teacher would like.A student may be a poor test taker and may have gained the label of learning disadvantaged even though the student may have good mastery of the concepts. This is rare, but possible.I find it heartbreaking when a student self identifies as learning disabled when the student demonstrates an ability that can understand and excel in the subje cts they are taught. Students, I feel, should be taught to expect more of themselves… not less. Another thing that I’ve learned from students is perseverance. Being older and more mature than my students means that I am able to stick with tasks for longer periods of time. Often I see students that are just on the verge of figuring out the information. Usually all they need to do is either go back to the basics and complete the parts of the problem that they were too scared to figure out due to the “hard parts of the problem,” or sometimes they just needed to think of the problem in a different manner. For instance it can seem overwhelming when students try to add percentages and fractions, but once you can get a student to understand that percentages are really just fractions, then it can smooth out a lot of the anxiety and feelings of bewilderment.For myself as I study to become a medical doctor sometimes I am faced with hard problems that make me feel lost. So I just apply the same idea to my own problems as I apply with my students, and invariably I find that even the most difficult problems are surmountable.Keep Studying!

This industry, in particular, will never run out of job opportunities simply because all people have to eat and many people love to eat. The three primary things needed for human, animal, and plant survival are  water, air, and food. Without these three things, we would all be in a world of trouble. So, if you choose a job in the industry of food or restaurant management, your efforts, I’m sure, will not go unnoticed by the people you serve. There are many jobs within this field including those of chef, prep cook, assistant cook, nutritionist, food safety director, restaurant manager, dietician, restaurant chain director, and line cook. Working as a line cook can be a wonderful pathway to take to get into the restaurant industry. Line cooks are sometimes confused with prep cooks, but they are not one and the same. Prep cooks are typically on their way to becoming a full chef, and as such a job is the first step in that direction. Those with this job title are responsible for preparing ingredients and cooking stations as well as assembling dishes according to specifications. This often includes chopping and cutting foods, cooking soups, and stocking and restocking food stations. A line cook is typically responsible for filling orders from waiters and servers, preparing food for service, ensuring nutrition and sanitation compliance, cleaning up and preserving or throwing out leftovers, and setting up cooking operations as well as stocking supplies. Now that you know what the responsibilities of a  line cook are, here are the most transferable skills you can take from a line cook job to any other job in the food/restaurant industry and even to other industries: 1. Multitasking Some industries consider multitasking a curse as employees are increasingly being taught to focus on one project before going to the next one in order to improve productivity and reduce stress. However, as a line cook, you must be able to handle multiple food tickets at one time, ensuring the  accuracy of each order and a pleasant customer experience. 2. Cleanliness Nobody likes eating dirty food on dirty dishes or dirty tablecloths. All cooks, but especially line cooks, must ensure clean operations from start to finish. Wherever food is present, a clean surface, dishes, and utensils must be in place. Line cooks must also trim their nails, keep facial hair neat, keep hair on their heads out of the way of food (wear a hat) and practice other terms of basic hygiene. Line cooks should also be and look professional. 3. Teachable Rookie line cooks must be teachable because they don’t know everything and certainly not enough as line cooks who have been doing the work for several years. Therefore, no matter how much you want to know, you must humble yourself and learn. This is why it is very important to listen to constructive and critical feedback and accept it as part of the business. 4. Feedback This leads me to write a few words about feedback. Typically, people don’t like to receive feedback. Period. Feedback often comes across as criticism and criticism can be taken as harsh even though it is not really harsh. Cooking food can be very subjective in terms of texture and taste. Most cooks don’t like to hear anything negative about their food, but on occasion, you will cook the less than perfect meal, and you will hear a customer’s two cents about it. In these rare but inevitable cases, you must listen to it, decide whether it is valuable to you or not, and implement it next time if you can. 5. Details What sets some restaurants apart from others or some dishes apart from similar dishes is when the cooks pay attention to the details. Cooking is both a science and an art, so a line cook must be precise in the ingredients and measurements. A line cook must also be accurate in knowing what food and how much food to order to keep inventory levels up. 6. Organization A kitchen can become a house of chaos very quickly, especially during peak times if processes are not put in place and standards adhered to by all working alongside the line cook. Often, a variety of meals have to be prepared at one time and must be done in an organized environment. Line cooks can create structure and order in the kitchen by establishing ground rules, ensuring questions are answered in a timely manner, giving proper direction, and remaining calm. 7. Attitude It takes both skill and attitude, but more attitude than skill, to succeed in any job. A line cook must have a positive attitude, be willing to learn and teach if necessary, have patience, and be calm in the midst of busyness. Like anything, practice makes perfect and more practice means more perfection. Accuracy, consistency, safety, and speed are just a few things that make good line cooks great ones.

Given: object side length = 12 units Image side length = 3 units. Here, clearly the size of the object has been changed since the length of the object is changed. Therefore the transformation used here is Dilation. Scale factor = (Image length) / (Object length) = 3/12 = 1/4 This implies that the objects size has been reduced by a scale factor of 1/4! Example 2: In an X-Y coordinate plane, PQR is a triangle where point P is at (3, 2). The image of the triangle PQR has the point P at (0, 6). Which transformation is used here? Given: point P= (3, 2) and point P= (0, 6) Since the points have been moved, hence the transformation used here is Translation! The x coordinate has changed from 3 to 0==change= 0 (3) = -3 = 3 units to the left. The y coordinate has changed from 2 to 6 == change= 6 (2) = 4 units up.

Enter emotional intelligence: one’s ability to be aware of and control their own emotions, and interact with people in an empathic way.
